If all of the present developments between “Russian” Ukraine and “Ukrainian” Ukraine are hard to follow, then you might like to have a looks at the following. Here you can see a map to show how Ukrainian statues have been destroyed. Broadly it follows ethnic lines. This BBC report and this BBC magazine article explain the long history of idolatory in Russian and Soviet history.
One final point – Lenin of course was of Tartar origin…

I have been following your blog. I am in the midst of developing a visual narrative of post-Marx, post-Lenin, and very post-Stalin Russia all the way up to Mr. Putin and his latest shenanigans. The series, Are You Now or Have You Ever Been? follows my last series, AxeMan; the Care and Feeding of an Alter Ego, 2013 (on my website). I would like to use some version of your timeline that I found online. Also, if you are willing to send me an e-mail address, I will send you the opening piece (pdf) called Hero of the Soviet Union based on Leonardo Padura’s “The Man Who Loved Dogs” which I finished reading not long ago and which inspired me to begin this latest madness. I myself have been through the gamut of post 1960s left-wing polemics (and been caught in the middle of a few food fights). It would be interesting for me to communicate during this process. I am using my Alter Ego to mediate my own faux graphic memoir which began (again, on my site and funded by Kickstarter) as AxeMan Who Will be 70 in he Year 2010.
