This was thoroughly interesting, but truly horrific. The scope of this uprising was incredible, with 200,000 deaths caused by the conflict within its 63 day duration and much of the city destroyed. What is more, it is a miserable fact that so little was done by Poland’s allies and when help came, it ended in failure (Operation Frantic leading to the Nazi army gaining four fifths of the food parcels dropped). A stauch reminder of the destructiveness that human conflict can bring and a testament to the Resistance’s courage.

This week’s video was equally fascinating and particularly useful for contextualising the event timeline of our Cold War coursework. Seeing images of the unimaginable destruction after of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 helped highlight just how significant these weapons – as well as their theoretical power and the political implications of these weapons – really was. The video also raised some interesting questions about the policy of Appeasement and its impact of Soviet relations with the west. Overall it provided a good overview of key events leading up to and during The Cold War
